Georgian Journalists Condemn Attacks on Media in Azerbaijan

The Georgian National Association of Broadcasters (GNAB) and the Association of Independent Georgian Publishers issued a statement on October 20, in which they condemned the recent attacks on mass media in Azerbaijan during the presidential elections.

“We would like to express our deep concern over the safety of the tens of our colleagues detained or violently attacked during the recent presidential elections in Azerbaijan,” the statement reads.

Reportedly on October 15-16 dozens of journalists were arrested and attacked by policemen and civilians.

The Georgian Associations call on the Government of Azerbaijan to do its best to stop pressure on media and to ensure the safety of journalists in Azerbaijan.

On October 20 Georgian journalists held a protest rally in front of the Embassy of Azerbaijan to Georgia in solidarity with Azeri journalists.
