New National Movement Protests, Demanding to Announce Results of Locals
(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, October 22, 2002) – Today the New National Movement rallies in front of the Central Election Commission (CEC) demanding to announce results of recounting of ballots cast during the local self-governance election in Tbilisi on June 2.
The party claims that the CEC delays to announce results that aims at hindering to convene Tbilisi City Council – Sakrebulo.
One of the leaders of the New National Movement Koba Davitashvili says that the government pressures the CEC and forces it to delay announcement of results.
The CEC had to initiate recounting in July after Tbilisi District Court ruled positively on Mikheil Saakashvili’s New National Movement’s appeal, which has been demanding this process due to numerous procedural violations during the elections.
