President Vows to Keep Order
President Shevardnadze called on the political parties to keep order during the elections, refrain from the protest rallies and express their claims only with appealing the courts.
“I do not threaten anybody, I just warn everybody against any attempt at escalation of the situation.” Shevardnadze said in his radio broadcast on October 27.
He said the authorities would do utmost on the day of elections to prevent destabilization and maintain order. The President called on the population of Georgia to actively participate in the elections.
He expressed hope that the Central Election Commission would cope with the mess in voter lists and promised that the population would express its will without any intimidation, despite the claims to the contrary by several politicians.
