Shevardnadze Condemns Batumi Incidents
President Eduard Shevardnadze condemned today the clash between the National Movement and the local authorities of Adjara Autonomous Republic.
Dozens were injured on October 24, as the police dispersed protest rally of the National Movement party in Adjarian capital of Batumi.
The President said that the investigation is on and he will make a comment regarding the incident only after the investigation.
The National Movement blamed the Adjara authorities, as well as President Shevardnadze for the clash .
“I am tired of these accusations. I have nothing to do with provocations. I wish only to hold peaceful elections in the country,” Shevardnadze said in his radio broadcast on October 27.
