Shevardnadze Says Lortkipanidze would be a Perfect Speaker

President Shevardnadze said, while speaking in the live broadcast on the State TV Channel on October 29 that the pro-governmental election bloc For New Georgia will nominate candidate for the Parliamentary Chairman in case the bloc secures ?at least half of the parliamentary seats.?

?I have several persons on my mind for this post. One of them is Vazha Lortkipanidze, who could be a perfect speaker. I would refrain from naming other persons,? Eduard Shevardnadze said.

Vazha Lortkipanidze, the former State Minister, is in the top of the For New Georgia bloc?s MP candidates? lists running for proportional system.

Lortkipanidze tried to take the Parliamentary Chairman?s post in 2001, when Zurab Zhvania resigned, however he failed. Nino Burjanadze was elected on the post.
