National-Democratic Party Leader Dismissed
The National-Democratic Party dismissed today Irina Sarishvili-Chanturia from the post of the party’s chairmanship.
Sarishvili-Chanturia’s party joined the Shevardnadze’s election bloc For New Georgia on the eve of the November 2 parliamentary elections. She was a bloc’s spokesperson.
Sarishvili-Chanturia, who is a political foe of the leaders of the bloodless revolution, said at a news briefing on November 26 that she will form a new political party. However Sarishvili-Chanturia refrained from saying who will be her political allies.
Irina Sarishvili-Chanturia led the National-Democratic Party since 1994, after his husband and party leader Giorgi Chanturia was assassinated.
