Saakashvili Warns over Counter-Revolution

Presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili, who led the bloodless revolution, said certain groups in the military are planning a coup .

“Reportedly, there are one or two officers in the army planning something similar to a coup. I would like to remind everybody that during the velvet revolution the army stood beside the people. Defense Minister Davit Tevzadze was brave enough to declare that he would never go against his people,” Saakashvili told Rustavi 2 TV channel on November 26.

He said the new leadership aims to create a strong, well-paid army that will be of vital importance for Georgia’s strength.

Saakashvili warned late on Wednesday of a possible “counter-revolution and even of “interference by external forces”.
