Interior Ministry Starts Making Voter Lists

Interior Ministry will submit the voter lists to the Central Election Commission on December 20.

Newly appointed Chairman of the Central Election Commission Zurab Chiaberashvili met with Interior Minister Giorgi Baramidze today to discuss the details of drafting the precise voter lists.

Authorities’ primary objective is to build a computerized data base of accurate voter lists.

Opposition leaders say Shevardnadze’s administration manipulated the voter lists in the effort to rig the vote. Thousands of voters were unable to cast ballot on November 2 parliamentary elections, because of the inaccuracies in the voter lists.

Later today Zurab Chiaberashvili will meet the representatives of the International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES) to discuss the technical assistance the organization might provide Georgia during the presidential (scheduled for January 4) and parliamentary elections.
