Part of Adjarian Intellectuals Slam Abashidze for Boycotting Elections

The representatives of Adjarian intellectual groups expressed today protest against the Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze’s intention to boycott the January 4 presidential elections.

At the meeting in Tbilisi, they said that Aslan Abashidze or his party can boycott the elections, “but he cannot declare boycott on behalf of entire Adjara.”

Leader of Adjara Autonomous Republic Aslan Abashidze threatens to boycott presidential elections, if the government does not postpone it until June.

The six-hour talks between Adjarian leader and Interim President Nino Burjanadze on December 10 in Batumi yielded no results. However, the both sides pledge to continue talks.
