New Justice Minister Appointed

The Parliament has approved Zurab Adeishvili as the Justice Minister on December 26.

Thirty-one-year-old Zurab Adeishvili of the National Movement party, which is led by Mikheil Saakashvili, was the member of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal and Administrative Reforms.

Previous Justice Minister Roland Giligashvili filed resignation in the wake of the mass jailbreak, when 129 inmates of the Rustavi high-security prison escaped in September.

Zurab Adeishvili vowed to reform the penitentiary system and introduce anti-corruption bill that would allow for the confiscation of assets that former and current high officials could not prove were acquired legally.

Mikheil Saakashvili, a frontrunner presidential candidate, tried to endorse the bill in 2000, when he served as the Justice Minister in the Shevardnadze’s government, however failed, as Shevardnadze opposed the bill.
