Saakashvili Wants Abashidze to Visit Tbilisi

President Saakashvili reiterated the necessity of the arrival of Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze in Tbilisi, saying that if Abashidze wants to establish good relations with the central authorities he should arrive in the capital.

Abashidze has not visited Tbilisi for last decade under the pretext of lack of security guarantees.

“He visits Moscow once in a week but refuses to visit the capital city. We have normal relations, but if Aslan Abashidze does not arrive in Tbilisi, it will be estimated as disobedience,” Saakashvili told reporters on February 18.

The President said that if the Adjarian leader does not arrive in Tbilisi, he is ready to arrive in Batumi himself, but his “visit will have another mission.”

“Any disobedience will be met by relevant reaction,” Saakashvili added.

According to the unofficial reports Aslan Abashidze intends to arrive in Tbilisi on February 20, after the talks with visiting Council of Europe Secretary General Walter Schwimmer.
