Prosecutor General, Security Minister Left for Moscow
Georgian Prosecutor General Irakli Okruashvili and Security Minister Valerie Khaburdzania today left for Moscow to discuss the issue of extradition of kidnapper suspect Shota Chichiashvili, who was arrested on July 24 in Moscow.
Chichiashvili allegedly masterminded kidnappings of two Spanish businessmen in 2000, Georgian Parliamentarian Petre Tsiskarishvili and the British banker Peter Shaw in 2002.
Georgian chief prosecutor told reporters that extradition of other persons, who are wanted by Georgia and allegedly hide in Russia, will also be discussed during the visit.
It is anticipated that the Georgian side will push the issue of arrest of former governor of Kvemo Kartli region Levan Mamaladze, who faces fraud allegations. Reportedly, Levan Mamaladze, who was former President Shevardnadze’s close ally, is in Russia.
