Saakashvili to Attend Military March in Batumi Marking President’s Inauguration
President-elect Mikheil Saakashvili told reporters today Davos, where he attends the World Economy Forum, that he intends to travel to Adjara Autonomous Republic on January 25 and attend parade of the Georgian troops in Batumi, marking presidential inauguration.
He dismissed the statements that the central authorities cannot control the situation in Adjara. “I am tired of speaking about this issue. I will not permit disobedience in the country and use the most severe methods against any forms of disobedience. We should eradicate this tendency once and forever,” the President-elect said.
Saakashvili said the only territory, which is not controlled by the Georgian authorities, is breakaway Abkhazia, adding that as soon as the new authorities gain its foothold, the situation in Abkhazia will be put under control of the Georgian authorities as well.
Saakashvili also said that he will invite Aslan Abashidze, the head of Adjara Autonomous Republic, to participate in the presidential inauguration ceremony in Tbilisi scheduled for January 25.
“He is the leader of one of the regions of Georgia and is obliged to arrive in Tbilisi,” Mikheil Saakashvili added.
