Saakashvili: No Breakthrough Expected with Moscow Visit

Georgian President Saakashvili said that he does not expect a breakthrough and “miracles” with his visit to Moscow scheduled for February 11.

“The problems will not be solved with one visit. But I hope that the positive tendencies will occur in the relationship between the two countries after the visit and it is very important,” Mikheil Saakashvili told the new conference in Tbilisi on February 5.

The military bases are the main problem that causes tensions between Russia and Georgia at the moment.

Russia has slightly softened its position as expressed readiness to withdraw its two military bases from Georgia within seven or nine years, while initially Moscow demanded 10-11 years for withdrawal.
