New Governor Appointed
Controversial political figure Petre Tsiskarishvili, who is President Saakashvili’s ally, has been appointed as governor of eastern Georgian region of Kakheti on February 25.
Petre Tsiskarishvili, who served as a Deputy Interior Minister for just couple of days, had to resign after disagreement with Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze.
Petre Tsiskarishvili of National Movement party was the member of the parliament and became publicly known after being kidnapped in 2001.
He was abducted together with his fiancйe and was kept in detention in Pankisi gorge for couple of weeks.
Petre Tsiskarishvili also became in the focus of the public attention, when he initiated notorious fist fighting in the Parliament’s chamber in 2002. Later he apologized for the incident.
