Saakashvili: Russia Played a Good Role to Resolve Adjara Crisis
President Saakashvili thanked the Russian government for its help in defusing the crisis in Adjara.
Speaking in Slovak capital Bratislava, Mikheil Saakashvili said that Russia, which has a military base in Adjara, “played a good role to end the crisis.”
Saakashvili said that he spoke with President Putin by phone and the Russian militaries in Adjara were ordered “not to leave territory of the military base” and not to interfere in crisis.
After talks with Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze in Batumi Georgian President left for Bratislava on March 18 to participate in the conference “Enlarged Europe: New Agenda” which focused on security issues in Europe.
