Ruling Party for Restriction of MP Immunity

MP candidates from the ruling National Movement – Democrats party signed a declaration today obliges them to support proposal over restriction of MP immunity after they become parliamentarians.


President Saakashvili, who attended a singing ceremony in Tbilisi, said “lifting of immunity from the parliamentarians would prevent criminals to become MP.”
 
“There is no place for criminals in politics,” Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze, who was the first to have signed the document, said.
 
The proposal was discussed by the outgoing Parliament but it was rejected.
