Saakashvili Warns Abashidze against Recruiting Mercenaries

President Saakashvili told reporters on March 24, leader of the Adjarian Autonomy Aslan Abashidze might recruit mercenaries. 

“As far as I know the Adjarian leadership sent emissaries to different countries to recruit mercenaries. I do not advise Aslan Abashidze to do this and want to warn him, that if even one Chechen or other fighters enter into Georgia and fight against the country, he [Abashidze] will repent this,” President Saakashvili said. 

At the same time the Georgian President expressed hope that the elections will be held in Adjara, adding that much is still to be done over fulfillment of the agreement achieved between the President and the Adjarian leader on March 18.
