Security Ministry Claims Alleged Mutiny Attempt Disclosed

Georgian Security Ministry announced on March 27, that the law enforcers detained two persons, which together with allies allegedly intended to seize weapons in one of the military bases in western Georgia to cause disorders on elections day.


“We know other members of the group as well, however they are in Adjarian Autonomy. They intended to seize a military unit in Tkibuli and then undermine situation in Samegrelo [western Georgia] region,” Gigi Ugulava, the Deputy Security Minister told a press conference on March 27.


He also warned over possible provocations in several regions of Georgia during the March 28 parliamentary elections.
 
“We have information that provocations are planned on the elections day in various regions of Georgia, including in the Kvemo Kartli, Adjara and Tbilisi. Therefore, the law enforcement agencies will be on high alert to maintain order in the country,” Giorgi Ugulava said.
