Abashidze Downplays PM’s Visit

Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze said on March 27 the arrival of Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania in the Adjara Autonomous Republic is not necessary.

“Zurab Zhvania has participated in the rigging of all previous ballots and I do not think his arrival in Batumi to monitor the elections is justified,” Aslan Abashidze said.

Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania will arrive in Adjara on the elections day to monitor the March 28 parliamentary elections.

“I held a telephone conversation with Aslan Abashidze. He is ready to meet us. We will observe elections at various precincts and return to Tbilisi as soon as the voting is ended,” Zurab Zhvania said on March 28 before departure to Batumi.
