Repeat Elections Endangered in Adjara
Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Zurab Tchiaberashvili said on April 14 that holding of repeat elections in the Adjara’s two districts is threatened.
He condemned yesterday’s incident in a town of Kobuleti, where a group of armed men forced the CEC representatives tasked to prepare repeat elections to leave the region.
“Criminal charges will be brought against all persons, who will try to hinder elections,” Tchiaberashvili told reporters in the town of Poti, near the Adjarian Autonomy. The CEC Chairman intends to visit Adjara on April 14.
On April 2, the CEC annulled the election results in Khulo and Kobuleti election districts of Adjara, quoting massive irregularities.
