U.S. Ambassador Meets Adjarian Leader

U.S. Ambassador Richard Miles is holding talks with Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze on April 16 in Batumi.

Richard Miles told reporters before the meeting that upcoming repeat elections in the Autonomy’s two districts and disarmament of paramilitary forces in Adjara, where “situation remains unsettled,” will be discussed during the talks with Aslan Abashidze.

The U.S. Ambassador’s visit to Batumi is seen as a part of international efforts to defuse tensions in Adjara.
