Opposition Activists Beaten Up, Arrested in Batumi
One opposition activist was arrested and five others beaten up in Adjarian capital Batumi on May 2, according to the Our Adjara, which is a major opposition movement to the Adjarian leader Alan Abashidze.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili gave 10-day ultimatum to Abashidze to disarm his paramilitary forces and respect human rights, otherwise threatened to cancel Adjarian government and parliament and hold snap elections in the region.
