PM: Elections to be Held within 5-6 Weeks in Adjara
Georgian Prime-Minister Zurab Zhvania told reporters in Batumi that snap elections of the Adjarian Supreme Council – a local legislative body will be held within 5-6 weeks.
“A special governmental commission will be set up, chaired by President Saakashvili, which will run the region. The local elections will be held within 5-6 weeks and local Supreme Council will be elected,” Zurab Zhvania said on May 6.
President Saakashvili said on May 5 direct presidential rule will be imposed on Adjarian Autonomy and a special council will rule the region until the snap local elections are held in Adjara.
The Parliamentary session on May 6 is expected to consider the legal base of early elections in Adjara.
