Commission Set up over Adjara’s Constitutional Powers

The Parliament of Georgia has issued a special decree over the launch of public discussion regarding the draft law over the constitutional powers of the Adjara Autonomous Republic, submitted to the Parliament by President Saakashvili.


A 16-member commission was set up on May 18, which will work over the improvement of the draft law within a month.
 
The commission is composed of Security Council Secretary Vano Merabishvili, Security Minister Zurab Adeishvili, Chairman of the Constitutional Court Joni Khetsuriani, Chairman of the Supreme Court Lado Chanturia, Prosecutor General Irakli Okruashvili, Acting Mayor of Batumi Edward Surmanidze, as well as legal experts Davit Usupashvili and Tina Khidasheli and a group of MPs.
 
Constitutional draft laws should be publicly discussed before their adoption, according to the Georgian Constitution.
