MP Arrested for Alleged Extortion

MP Giorgi Kenchadze of ruling National Movement-Democrats party was arrested on May 19. He is suspected of racketeering.

The General Prosecutor?s Office has already appealed the Parliament to lift MP immunity from Giorgi Kenchadze.

The details of the case are not reported yet. Later today President Saakashvili, who is the chairman of the National Movement-Democrats party, will make a statement regarding the arrest of his party member, according to the President?s press office.
