Ambassador in Russia Nominated as Chairman of Supreme Court

Georgian Ambassador in Russia Kote Kemularia was nominated as Chairman of the Supreme Court on June 24, after the Parliament ceased his diplomatic credentials.

Prior to the Parliament?s approval Kote Kemularia will hold meetings with the parliamentary factions. Only afterwards the Parliament will discuss his candidacy.

Kote Kemularia will replace on this position Lado Chanturia, who filed resignation on June 11.

The New Rights opposition parliamentary faction expressed fears that Kemularia, who is President Saakashvili?s key ally, will not be impartial as the Chairman of the Supreme Court.

Georgia?s new Ambassador in Russia has not been yet nominated.
