EC Grants ?4.65 Million to Reinforce Rule of Law in Georgia

The European Commission (EC) decided, on July 2, to make ?4.65 million available under its Rapid Reaction Mechanism (RRM) for measures to reinforce the rule of law and democratic processes in Georgia.
 
According to a news release issued by the EC on July 2, the Commission will allocate funds towards policy and institutional reform in four areas: penitentiary and probation service reform; organizational reform of the Ministry of Justice as well as other public institutions; parliamentary and electoral reform; confidence building among population groups affected by conflict.
 
With this program the Commission continues to stress the European Union’s commitment to structural and democratic reform in Georgia.
 
The RRM programme is complements other projects, such as the recently agreed Rule of Law mission, conducted under the framework of the European Security and Defense Policy.
