Court Remands Ex-Audit Chief in Custody
The Supreme Court remanded Sulkhan Molashvili, the former chairman of the State Audit Agency and close ally of ex-President Shevardnadze, for another stint of pre-trial custody on October 23. The court remanded Molashvili for an additional one month and ten days of pre-trial detention.
Molashvili, who is accused of alleged misappropriation of 3 million Lari, has already served a 6-month pre-trial sentence pending investigation.
Lawyers for Sulkhan Molashvili, as well as some human rights organizations, claim that the ex-chief of the State Audit Agency is a political prisoner. They also claim that Molashvili was subjected to torturer in the pre-trial detention center.
