Georgian Official: South Ossetia Violates Ceasefire Agreement

Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Goga Khaindrava said an agreement over a ceasefire, reached by the Georgian and South Ossetian sides on October 20 at a meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC), was violated on October 25 when the South Ossetian side opened fire on the Georgian village of Achabeti in the conflict zone. No victims were reported.

“Similar provocations will take place, but we should not yield to such provocations,” Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Goga Khaindrava, who represents the Georgian side in JCC, said on October 25.

The South Ossetian de facto authorities have not commented on the issue so far.

During the JCC meeting in Tbilisi the sides discussed the issue of frequent shelling in the conflict area and agreed to set up a special group to investigate these facts.
