Georgians in South Ossetia Protest Shelling

According to Georgian media reports, the residents of the Georgia village of Achabeti held a protest rally on October 25 demanding to maintain a ceasefire in the conflict zone.

The protesters blocked the road connecting the capital of the unrecognized republic, Tskhinvali, and Java, a town in northern South Ossetia. A similar rally by the Georgian population in the conflict zone was held on October 19, also protesting against the frequent shootouts in the region.

According to the Georgian side, the village of Achabeti came under fire overnight on October 25 from the positions controlled by the South Ossetian side. However, the latter denies these accusation and claims that South Ossetian forces responded with fire only after the Georgian side launched the shelling of the nearby Ossetian village of Kverneti.
