Khajimba Offers Deal to Bagapsh
Raul Khajimba, the Abkhazian pro-governmental presidential candidate, expressed a readiness to withdraw his candidacy if opposition candidate Sergey Bagapsh also makes this similar move and gives up presidential aspirations, RIA Novosti news agency report quoting Khajimba on November 17.
No immediate response by the opposition leader Sergey Bagapsh, who claims victory in October 3 presidential elections, is known yet; however earlier Bagapsh announced that he will not make any compromise as he was, according to him, rightly elected President of Abkhazia.
The Abkhaz opposition speculates that Khajimba, who enjoys the support of the Kremlin, and his supporters are planning a scenario, according to which the power will be handed over to the current Prime Minister Nodar Khashba. The latter has been installed by Moscow as the unrecognized republic?s Prime Minster after the crisis erupted in the breakaway region following the disputed October 3 polls.
