Sokhumi Ready to Resume Talks with Tbilisi

Abkhaz de facto Foreign Minister Igor Akhba said on December 7, after talks with UN Secretary General?s Special Representative in Georgia Heidi Tagliavini, that the Abkhaz side is ready to resume talks with Tbilisi, RIA Novosti news agency reports.

?We still support a peaceful resolution of the conflict. However, resumption of negotiations is possible only in the case of implementation of the previously signed agreements,? Akhba added.

The Abkhaz side suspended peace talks with Tbilisi in July, after the Georgian coast guard opened fire on a Turkish ship en-route to breakaway Abkhazia.

?If this incident is adequately assessed by the international society, resumption of peaceful talks between Sokhumi and Tbilisi will become much easier,? the de facto Foreign Minister said.
