Officials Silent Despite Speculations on Cabinet Reshuffle

Georgian media continues speculating over an anticipated reshuffle of the cabinet and a restructuring of the government, but no official confirmation of these reports has come as of yet.

The Georgian Interior and Security Ministers, as well as other high-ranking officials, consulted with President Saakashvili late on December 7, but refused to confirm or deny these speculations over staff changes in the government.

Unofficial reports say that as a result of a governmental restructure, the State Security Ministry will merge with the Interior Ministry.  It is anticipated that this latest change will be followed by a new round of shuffles within the cabinet as well.
