Parliament Approves Education Law
On December 21 the Georgian Parliament approved a law on higher education in its third and final hearing, with a 134 to 16 vote.
?Discussion of this draft was a good example of constructive cooperation between the Government and the Parliament,? Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said at the Parliament?s session on December 21.
Education Minister Alexander Lomaia said, ?the law should define the key trends of higher education and return Georgia to common European educational space.?
The draft law is based on five key principles that include the autonomy of higher educational institutions and the establishment of democratic principles of self-governance.
