Senior MP Denies Disagreements over Resolution on Russian Bases

Leading parliamentarian from the ruling National Movement party Giga Bokeria denied speculations that a disagreement still persists between a group of parliamentarians and Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze over the draft resolution that outlaws Russian military bases stationed in Georgia.

?I want to clearly state that the government and the Parliament is united on this issue like never before. This initiate [on the draft resolution] comes from the Parliamentary Chairperson, from the President and speculations over disagreements are groundless,? MP Giga Bokeria said.

Speculations about possible disagreements were sparked after the Parliamentary Chairperson and Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili made a proposal to the parliamentarians to postpone the adoption of this document and wait for the results of the Russo-Georgian consultation over the military bases, which are expected to set a timeframe of bases withdrawal by early May.

Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze also denied rumors over the disagreements and said at a parliamentary session on March 10 that the only thing which was under discussion was the date of approval of this document. ?But everybody agrees that this document should be approved, the only question was when to adopt it,? she added.
