Burjanadze Denies Going into Opposition
Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze denied on April 18 speculations regarding her intentions to move into the opposition.
?Having different opinions or arguments over some issues does not mean going into the opposition,? Nino Burjanadze told reporters.
The Georgian media has speculated recently that some of the influential members of the ruling National Movement party, who are close allies to President Mikheil Saakashvili, are trying to reduce the Parliamentary Chairperson’s political influence.
Even the nomination of MP Salome Samadashvili, who is a close ally to Nino Burjanadze, as Georgia?s Ambassador the Benelux countries was interpreted by various media sources as an attempt to reduce the number of MPs in the Parliament who are loyal to the Parliamentary Chairperson.
