Georgian, Ukrainian Foreign Ministers Discuss GUUAM
Visiting Georgian Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili held talks with her Ukrainian counterpart Boris Tarasyuk in Kiev on April 20. The two ministers discussed a possible renaming of the GUUAM ? a coalition of Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Moldova – as well as attracting new members to the organization, the news agency Interfax reports.
?We have discussed the issue of renaming the organization and its transformation into a full-fledged international organization,? Interfax quotes Boris Tarasyuk as saying after talks with Salome Zourabichvili.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister also did not rule out the possibility of the accession of other countries into the organization.
The statement about renaming GUUAM follows the refusal of Uzbekistani President to participate in the summit of GUUAM leaders scheduled for April 22 in Chisinau.
After visiting Ukraine, Salome Zourabichvili will leave for Chisinau to take part in the GUAM Foreign Ministerial Council.
