Sokhumi Rejects Tbilisi’s Proposals over Peace Plan

Foreign Minister of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Shamba said on June 9 that Sokhumi will never abandon “independence gained with blood,” Apsnipress news agency reported.

On June 9, Tbilisi unveiled its plan to grant Abkhazia “broad internal sovereignty based on principles of federalism.”

Officials in Tbilisi say that Sokhumi’s rejection of the proposal was not a surprise and talks will continue to bring their positions closer.
