Opposition Leaders Meet Foreign Diplomats
Officials from the seven opposition parties – New Rights, Republican, Conservative, Industrialist, Labor, Freedom and People?s Forum – met with foreign diplomats accredited in Georgia on July 4 to brief them over, as they put it, ?violence exerted by the authorities.?
MP Davit Gamkrelidze, leader of the New Rights party, said the opposition leaders informed foreign diplomats about unfair trial over Sandro Girgvliani murder case; detention of civil activists from the Equality Institute and developments in the Tbilisi State University.
The opposition leaders also acquainted foreign diplomats with their joint statement signed on June 30, in which they demanded holding of the election of the Tbilisi City Council ? Sakrebulo through a proportional, party-list system, otherwise warned they will consider boycotting of the local self-governance elections scheduled for this autumn.
