Breakaway Abkhazia Sets Date for Presidential Elections
Presidential elections in Georgia?s breakaway Abkhazia will be held on October 3, 2004, according to the decision made by the unrecognized republic?s parliament on July 14.
Abkhazia will elect a new leader, as the ailing, current de facto President Vladislav Ardzinba?s term of office expires this year.
According to Abkhazia?s election code the presidential candidate should be an ethnic Abkhazian who is fluent in the Abkhaz language.
