Georgian Interior Minister Downplays South Ossetian Forces
Georgian Interior Minister Irakli Okruashvili, who chairs a special center to coordinate the government?s activities in breakaway South Ossetia, inspected the Georgian peacekeepers? checkpoints deployed in the conflict zone late on July 13.
?Georgian peacekeepers are instructed to keep cautious and not to yield to provocations in order to maintain peace in the region,? Irakli Okruashvili told reporters after inspecting troops in the conflict zone.
The Georgian Interior Minister also said that the military exercises held by South Ossetian militia groups were a blatant ?display of force.?
?The South Ossetian side does not have enough forces to resists the Georgian troops, but we do not want an armed conflict,? he added.
