“Twelve-years” Melt at Freedom Square
The movement, “It is time to become reconciled,” which conducts activities within the framework of the Association of Caucasus Lawyers’ and in cooperation with students of Art Academy, organized a symbolic action on Freedom Square on July 19, 2004. The action addressed the situation that persists in the Tskhinvali region.
Twelve blocks of ice were placed in the center of Freedom Square.
As organizers explained, these 12 ice blocks symbolized the 12 years that have passed since the separation and declaration of the so-called South Ossetia Republic.
“Through this symbolic action we would like to mention that the melting of these 12 years/blocks of ice has started and nothing can impede this process,” Alexander Meski, the founder of the Association said.
“We will stay here until all the ice melts,” said one of the participant of the action.
Representatives of different mass-medias, students and pedestrians alike kept an eye on the melting ice.
