Georgia Anticipates Provocation in South Ossetia

Chairman of the Parliament Committee for Defense and Security Givi Targamadze stated that de facto authorities of South Ossetia plan to provoke violence in the region by staging an assault on de facto President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoev.

?According to the scenario prepared by the South Ossetian side, they will mastermind an assault on de facto President Eduard Kokoev and then attack the Georgian villages. However, I want to warn the de facto authorities that the reaction of the Georgian authorities to such provocations will be extremely severe,? Givi Targamadze said at a news briefing on August 9.

He said it is anticipated that a first group of ethnic Ossetian refugees, who left Georgia during the armed conflict in 1989-91, will return to their homes this week. ?This process will be continuous,?  Targamadze added.
