Russia would hit the Terrorist Bases Worldwide – Chief of General Staff
Chief of Russia’s General Staff Col.-Gen. Yuri Baluyevski has stated that the Russian army is ready to stike the terrorist targets pre-emptively and worldwide.
“Regarding the preventive strikes at the terrorists’ bases, we would take all actions to destroy the bases of terrorists in any region of the world. This does not mean, however, that we would use nuclear weapons,” Baluyevski told the journalists in Moscow on September 8, Russian news agencies reported.
He added that the choice of the weapons would depend on “specific situation on the ground.”
Russian military were already ordered to develop the plans for pre-emptive strikes against “anti-terrorist” targets in September 2002.
President Vladimir Putin has then ordered the General Staff to explore possibilities of attacking the alleged Chechen training camps in Georgia’s Pankisi gorge.
