Georgia Commemorates Abkhaz War Victims
Today Georgia commemorates the victims of the armed conflict in Abkhazia.
On September 27, 1993 Georgian troops were ousted from the breakaway Abkhaz capital Sukhumi and on September 30 Abkhazia announced its independence, which is has never been internationally recognized.
September 27th is the Day of Hope and Commemoration in Georgia. Authorities, as well as leading political parties, are organizing separate ceremonies for the commemoration of this day.
