Saakashvili Appoints New Governors in Western Georgia

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili appointed three new governors in western regions of Georgia. In particular, Deputy Interior Minister Gia Getsadze replaced Davit Mumladze at the post of governor of the Imereti region.


Deputy Security Minister Gigi Ugulava was appointed governor of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region. He replaced Leri Chitanava. 


?I am not dissatisfied with a 9-month work of the Imereti and Samegrelo governors; however, we need to implement staff changes to promote further economic growth in the regions,? the Georgian President said at a news briefing on September 28.


A new governor was also appointed in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region. Parliamentary majority MP Goga Khachidze will hold this position.


Recently the Georgian President appointed Jani Kalandadze as the new governor in the western Georgian region of Guria.
