Saakashvili: Georgia will not Host Foreign Military Bases
President Mikheil Saakashvili reiterated on October 10 that Georgia will not allow any foreign state to deploy its military forces on Georgian soil.
President Saakashvili was speaking to reporters at the Alekseevka military airfield near Tbilisi after a ceremony of handing over military uniforms, worth of USD 1,1 million, which were donated by the United States to the Georgian servicemen.
?We really appreciate the assitance by the United States and we will be very glad if Russia as well donates this kind of assistance to Georgia,? Mikheil Saakashvili said.
In his address to the UN General Assembly Session on September 21 Saakashvili pushed the issue of withdrawal of the Russian military bases from Georgia, but at the same time stated that Georgia has ?a very firm position and will not have any new foreign military bases on its territory.?
