Tbilisi to Host 2015 UEFA Super Cup
Tbilisi will host the European Super Cup in 2015, UEFA’s executive committee said on June 30.
UEFA Super Cup is annual football match contested between UEFA Champions League winner and UEFA Europa League holder, which traditionally has been hosted by the Stade Louis II in Monaco since 1998, when the contest became one-off match.
This year’s contest between Chelsea FC and Atlético Madrid will be held in Monaco, but from 2013 various venues will be used, starting with Prague’s Eden Stadium next year, then Cardiff in 2014 and Tbilisi in 2015.
Georgia made a joint bid with Azerbaijan to co-host the Euro 2020 Football Championship.
Also on June 30 at a meeting in Kiev the UEFA executive committee approved the timeline for bidders interested in hosting Euro 2020, saying that starting from December 2012 football associations interested in bidding should prepare their bid documentation to be submitted to UEFA in September 2013. The submitted bids will then be evaluated and an announcement of the host or hosts will be made in May 2014.
