Kyrgyz President Visits Georgia

President of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev, who started a two day visit to Georgia late on Wednesday, met his Georgian counterpart Giorgi Margvelashvili. 

Speaking at a joint news conference after the meeting on October 13, the Kyrgyz President reiterating his country’s support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and also said that all the issues should be resolved through negotiations. President Atambayev also said that there is never a situation in which only one side can be blamed for everything.

The Georgian President thanked his Kyrgyz counterpart for his “firm support” for Georgia’s territorial integrity.

“This is a historical visit. Our countries are linked with a long history and have interesting perspectives for the future,” President Margvelashvili said.

“Our today’s meeting was dedicated to the issues of bilateral cooperation   between Kyrgyzstan and Georgia. Georgia as a bridge between the East and the West creates a unique opportunity for international cooperation. We are ready to implement deep and comprehensive projects with our partners in this respect. We have also discussed regional developments, peace and security issues; we have talked about the difficult situation in the occupied territories [Abkhazia and South Ossetia],” the Georgian President said.

From Tbilisi, President Atambayev will head to the Armenian capital, Yerevan, on October 13, where he will participate in a meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
